Toyota Indus Motors Shuts Down Its plant in Pakistan
Pakistan’s Indus Motor Company (IMC) has decided to shut down its manufacturing plant for five days. The company took the step after some of its employees were diagnosed with coronavirus. In a statement, the company said safety of its all workers and stakeholders has always been its top priority. “The company has timely imposed strict SOPs under the instructions of Government of Pakistan to stop the virus from spreading,” the statement read.
The company further said it has conducted COVID-19 tests for several employees, including those who did not have any symptoms. “Some of these employees are tested positive, but none of them are in critical condition,” the company said, adding all of these employees are in isolation for treatment and quarantine.
IMC further said with its “safety first” philosophy, the company has further decided to test all its employees for the virus immediately. “In the meantime, the company had decided to close its plant temporarily to disinfect the facility comprehensively and to conduct virus testing,” the statement mentioned.
The company said it will resume its operations on 11th June 2020.
IMC further said it will ensure the timely delivery of vehicles to its customers as soon as possible. “IMC will provide most professional services to its customers with complete safety and peace of mind,” the statement concluded.
Earlier, Last month Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) revealed that not a single car was produced or sold in Pakistan in April. The association said this is first such happening in the country and COVID-19 pandemic is the reason behind it. It also said Toyota sold 5,256 units of Corolla, Suzuki sold 5,285 vehicles and Honda sold 2,310 units in April 2019.
Before coronavirus pandemic hit the country, Toyota Pakistan had introduced its all-New Yaris. However, due to lockdown, the company could not deliver the vehicles to its potential customers.
