BMW is now offering drivers to enjoy the feature of heated seats on a monthly subscription. If your car already has the feature of heated seats, then you’re good. But, if you’ve bought a second-hand BMW or your car does not support the feature of heated seats, you can now get them by paying a monthly fee.

This offer is exclusive to British drivers for now but will be expanded to other regions in the future. The subscription fee is 10 pounds for now.

The news about this service had been circulating for quite some time, and BMW is finally out with it! According to the company, the hardware and heating coils required for heated seats are already installed in all BMW vehicles but aren’t functional. Car owners can now pay monthly charges to activate this feature and enjoy an extra perk.

Perks of Subscription Service

The benefit of this subscription feature is that it allows the consumers to a choice to avail this service whenever they want. Drivers can pay for subscriptions during winters only and avoid the charges during hot weather. Also, second or third owners have the option to either subscribe to the service or not. BMW will shut down the feature of heated seats for the drivers who do not pay their subscription. This choice makes it easier for consumers to pick and choose the service of their liking.

BMW also plans on offering other features on subscription. Which features are available for subscription will depend on the target market. For example, heated seats are offered in Britain but will be a standard feature in North America, where consumers expect this feature to be unpaid. Similarly, a heated steering wheel is a feature that might be considered a luxury car feature in North America and may be available on subscription in the future.

Other features which are already available in North America on subscription include the remote start feature and BMW Drive Recorder feature. The remort start allows drivers to start their car’s engine from a distance to warm it up beforehand. The BMW Drive Recorder feature allows the car’s external cameras, used for lane-keeping assistance, to record videos like a dashboard cam.

These subscriptions allow the consumers to pay a slightly less upfront amount while purchasing the car and choose which features to avail at what time afterward.

Would you want to pay for extra services on a monthly basis, or do you think this is just a means for extra charges? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
