The 3rd Generation Mitsubishi Pajero was introduced in 1999. The Mitsubishi Pajero 3rd Generation is a front engine four wheel drive subcompact Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). The Mitsubishi Pajero 1999 featured a lower center of gravity, a wider stance and a new body that featured a three hundred percent increase in torsional rigidity when compared to the previous 2nd Generation Mitsubishi Pajero. The exterior of the Mitsubishi Pajero 1999 features a unique and distinctive design language. The front end houses trapezium styled side swept headlights, a black trapezium grille with quad inlets and a chrome accent, an outward sticking bumper, triple narrow slim rectangular styled air intakes and dual front fog lights. The rear end houses rectangular styled side swept taillights, the spare wheel and a hinged door. The 5-door SUV features identical styling apart from being slightly longer in order to accommodate the rear doors. The overall exterior of the 3rd Generation Mitsubishi Pajero features a fairly distinctive and muscular design language that is able to differentiate itself from its rivals. The interior of the Mitsubishi Pajero 3rd Generation features the use of black plastic trim pieces. The front and rear seats are covered in fabric. Standard features include front power windows, power steering, power lock doors, a stereo speaker audio system, air conditioning, and a tachometer. Features on the higher end XG Variant include power adjustable door mirrors, rear power windows, and front fog lamps. Features on the higher end XJ variant include a rear spoiler and a leather steering wheel.  Options include a sunroof, leather upholstery, climate control, satellite navigation and front electric seats. The overall interior of the 1999 Mitsubishi Pajero features a good amount of interior space for an SUV of its exterior dimensions.
